Domain Name Registration

A domain name is the address that a person uses to access a website.  For example, www.genwebdesigns.com will take you to the GenWeb Designs website.

Domain name registration is the process by which a web address is registered so that people can access the website associated with that address.

For successful sites, it is recommended that more than one domain name points to the same website.  Having more than one domain name pointing to the same website will allow the owner of that website to capture more potential visitors, and therefore, more potential customers.

Domain E-Mail Address

A domain email address is an address that uses your domain name as part of the address.  For example, service@genwebdesigns.com is the email address that customers use to contact GenWeb Designs.  Having the genwebdesigns.com included as part of the e-mail address also lets customers know where they can go online to get more information about GenWeb Designs.

While many people have e-mail either through free providers such as Yahoo! and Hotmail, or through their local internet service provider, it is always recommended that professionals who want to have a successful website use an email address that includes their website address.

Website Template

A website template is the general design format that all of the pages within your site will follow.  For example, if you browse through the various pages of the GenWeb Designs website, you will notice that they all follow the same format: A menu banner across the top, a banner image that defines the page, a menu on the left side, and the content in the middle.

An easy to use website will normally only have one template, and no more than three.  The last thing you want to do when you have potential customers visiting your site is have them confused by changing templates on every page.

Sub-Pages

The first page a visitor sees when they key in your web address is the main page of your site.  From the main page, you may have links to other pages within your site.  These pages are called sub-pages.

Sub-pages are normally used to provide additional information about a product or service, etc.

Prospecting Forms

A prospecting form is a form that a potential customer completes on your website to send a message to you or to request additional information.

It is recommended that there be several prospecting forms within your site, the more opportunities a potential customer has to provide their information to you, the more likely they are to do just that.

Articles

Articles are sub-pages that are provided for informational purposes only; they typically do not get updated frequently and are designed to give visitors to your website reasons to come back.

Featured Listings

A featured listing is a listing that you showcase on the front page of your website with a picture and a brief description.

When more than one featured listing is displayed on the front page, they will rotate every 3 seconds to allow visitors to see all of the featured listings within a short time frame.

Clicking on the listing will take the visitor to a
Listing Detail page.

Homes for Sale Page

A Homes for Sale page is a page showing all of your listings.  Visitors can click on links to view additional information about your listings on
Listing Detail page.

Listings Detail Page

A Listings Detail Page is a custom designed page that outlines all the features and details of your listing, such as price, size, location, and additional photos.

Initial listings are the listings that will be on your site when it first goes live.
*With IDX Service, there is no limit to the initial listings that your site has.

is a service that optimizes your website and automatically submits your website to over 100 search engines monthly.

IDX Service

IDX, or Internet Data Exchange, is a system that most Multiple Listing Services use to allow the listing data maintained in that database be displayed on the Internet.

Normally, with IDX, you can allow visitors to your website to see real-time information about your listings, as well as search the MLS for listings.  In most cases, when a visitor to your website uses the IDX feature on your website, the results will be branded with your name and telephone number and not that of the listing agent.

For more information about IDX and how to use the service, you should contact your local Board of REALTORS®.
